What is culture?
"Culture is the different the things you are brought up around... like religion, music..."
Is there an American culture? Percieved or real?
"I believe there is and American Culture from the fifteen to the eighteen hundreds. Now other cultures are being brought into it.... It's still there but I think other cultures are mixed into it.
"[American Culture is] selfish, capitalistic, everyone is out for themselves...."
Where do you fit into "American culture"?
"It's had its influence on me because it's a capitalist society... I have to be selfish a little in college so that I can get a job and succeed in our society."
Do your opinions noticeably differ from your parents or older siblings?
[The average American is] different from my mom. She is a lot more respectful than most Americans... she is into family.... She understands the value of education.
What does it mean to be American?
"To be American ... first you have to be born here; second you have to have the ideals of America instilled in you.
So you have any religious, ethnic or family traditions?
"Yeah... food. There is the celebration of the Ghanian New Year...there's a feast."
