All About Youth Sight
Youth Sight is a collaborative project between The Friends of Photography's
High School Docent Program and the Center for Electronic Art in San Francisco.
Started in July of1995, the project was devised with two goals in mind --
to give high school students the opportunity to explore their family histories
and personal identities, and to learn new computer skills, enabling them
to create a web site of their own. Themes explored by the students in the
project--immigration, identity, culture, and family-- are those addressed
in the Points of Entry series of exhibitions presented by The Friends of
Photography.
What you see is the result of a ten week course. The five high school docents participating in the project scanned their favorite images, learned HTML programming, and composed personal web pages which may be seen on this site. The Youth Sight Project was created to give high school students a new venue for creative expression. Therefore, the students were given latitude to include any information they considered important to share about their lives.
Students participating in the project are: Andrew Daily, Danielle Herman, Zorana Morris and Brittany Wyrick. Project facilitators include: Julia Brashares, The Friends of Photography Education Coordinator, and Holly Coleman, Organic Online, Inc. Production Assistant. Special thanks go to dedicated volunteers: Anne Colvin, Earl Duque, Kristi Farnham and Lianne Mueller. The Center for Electronic Art generously lent computer lab time, and thanks are extended to staff member Julie Barnathan for her support of the project.
